Year 2000 Objectives
The EFR Steering Committee has outlined the following objectives for the year 2000 agenda:
To achieve critical mass implementation of the EFR bar coding recommendations. The bar coding of all units, cases and eventually pallets with a uniform, standardized system of product identification remains a crucial building block to future supply chain efficiencies. The EFR Barcode Committee will be conducting audits to determine industry compliance to the EFR bar code recommendations and will make this benchmarking information available to the entire foodservice community.
To develop and promote industry use of Prologue, the Canadian foodservice sector product database. This database acts as a central repository for information about foodservice products that can be accessed by manufacturers, distributors and operators. One of the key objectives of the EFR Steering Committee for 2000 will be to migrate the management of Prologue from its current service provider to a neutral, third-party organization.
To define and recommend e-commerce best practices for the foodservice sector, based on the learning derived from the two e-commerce pilots. To facilitate the overall EFR objectives of improving information management and supply chain efficiencies.
To actively solicit more operator participation by demonstrating the value and potential benefits of EFR to this segment of the supply chain. The full benefits of EFR can only be realized if all levels of the supply chain participate in the initiative.
