Choosing the Correct Barcode Format

Once you have created the number portion of the code, you need to select the appropriate symbology to create the barcode. The term "symbology" means the barcode symbol used to represent the machine readable, scannable point-of-sale or shipping container code.

There are three different symbologies used within the UCC/EAN barcoding system. These are:

    • U.P.C.
    • Interleaved 2 of 5
    • UCC/EAN-128

The following diagram can help you determine the appropriate symbology for your application.
