Getting Started - Companies Scanning Barcodes

  • 1. Contact a vendor selling barcode software and ensure that the software is compatible with the type of scanner selected.

  • 2. Contact a vendor selling scanners.

  • If you are scanning at the warehouse level and will be scanning cases and pallets, ensure that the scanner can read U.P.C./EAN, Interleaved 2 of 5 and the UCC/EAN 128 barcode symbols.

  • 3. Ensure that your databases can store 12, 13 and 14-digit numbers once a number has been scanned.

  • 4. Develop a tracking process that will allow you to quickly identify a vendor whose cases or items are not scanning correctly.

    • 5. Contact the vendor if any problems or errors occur.
